Purebred Tosa Inus are characterized by their large heads, small and thin ears, straight forelimbs, and short, hard, and dense fur.
1. Size: Tosa Inus typically stand between 60-85 centimeters tall and weigh between 45-80 kilograms. Male dogs should not fall below the standard height, while female dogs should not exceed it.
2. Head: They have a large head with a flat skull. Their nose is large and black, with a medium-length muzzle and a straight nasal bridge. The mouth is wide, with strong jaw muscles and sharp teeth, boasting a bite force 1.5 times greater than that of a Pit Bull. Their ears are small and thin, set high and to the rear of the head, and hang down. The eyes are small and dark brown.
3. Limbs: The forelimbs are straight, moderately long, and strong. The hind limbs are broad, muscular, and powerful. Their paws have large, thick, and elastic pads, with hard, preferably dark-colored nails.
4. Coat: The Tosa Inu's coat is short, hard, and very dense. Common coat colors include reddish-brown, light yellowish-brown, and apricot. White markings on the chest are acceptable. Pure reddish-brown is considered the most desirable color for a Tosa Inu.
5. Tail: The tail is set high and is typically carried low.
How Much Does a Japanese Tosa Inu Cost?
The price of a Tosa Inu ranges from approximately 3,000 to 5,000 yuan. These dogs are categorized into four levels: Shoketsu, Kansho, Taiko, and Yokozuna, with prices increasing with the level. Tosa Inus are not commonly kept as pets due to their aggressive nature and unstable temperament. They can sometimes become aggressive toward their owners.
