Dog Bite Red Mark No Bleeding: What to Do and How to Treat It

A dog bite that leaves a red mark without bleeding indicates potential skin damage. Immediate wound care and rabies vaccination are crucial.

While a red mark from a dog bite without bleeding is generally considered less risky, it's essential to take precautionary measures. Thoroughly clean the area with soap and water, then disinfect with povidone-iodine (Betadine). Prompt medical attention is necessary to receive a rabies vaccine. The rabies vaccination should ideally start within 24 hours of the bite. The typical course consists of five intramuscular injections, administered on the day of the bite (day 0), then on days 3, 7, 14, and 30.

During the rabies vaccination period, adhere to the prescribed injection schedule. Adequate rest, avoiding overexertion, and maintaining a proper diet are also important. Avoid spicy, greasy, and irritating foods like spicy snacks and braised pork. Monitor the wound carefully for any signs of infection. Keep the area dry and clean to prevent further complications.
