1. If both eyes have mild redness and your dog shows no other symptoms, such as squinting, increased eye discharge, or pus-like discharge, it's likely just normal capillaries and nothing to be concerned about. This often happens due to slight irritation or normal vessel visibility.
2. Conjunctivitis is frequently caused by irritants like dust or bacterial infections. In such cases, your pet might have pus-like discharge. You can start by applying antibiotic eye drops at home to manage the condition. If the condition does not improve within 48 hours, then it is imperative that you bring them into the vet.
3. Scleral congestion, or redness in the white part of the eye, can stem from various factors. These include long hair irritating the eye, conditions like iritis, uveitis, and glaucoma. Also, underlying eye structural issues like distichiasis (ingrown eyelashes) or entropion (inward turning eyelids) can also cause red veins in the eyes.
If you notice these symptoms, it's crucial to take your dog to a vet for a comprehensive eye exam. Prompt diagnosis and treatment based on the examination can prevent any delays in your dog's recovery and prevent any long term problems.
