Unfortunately, owning a Chow Chow in Xi'an is not permitted. This is primarily due to their classification as a medium-to-large breed, coupled with their often stubborn and difficult-to-train nature. These characteristics can potentially lead to aggression, making them unsuitable for urban environments.

Several factors contribute to this ban. Firstly, Chow Chows exceed the size restrictions stipulated for domestic pets in Xi'an. These regulations set limitations on the acceptable size of pet dogs. Secondly, their temperaments are often described as volatile, with a propensity for aggression. This poses a risk to other residents, particularly when walking them in public areas. Their strength and difficulty to control further compound these concerns. Finally, their stubborn and inflexible nature makes them notoriously challenging to train. This lack of trainability creates potential safety hazards for both owners and the general public. Therefore, due to these challenges in managing and controlling a Chow Chow, owning one is prohibited in Xi'an.

Are Chow Chows Loyal to Their Owners?

Chow Chows are indeed very loyal to their owners. Once they have bonded, they develop deep trust and dependence and are unlikely to accept a new owner readily. If a Chow Chow is never abandoned, they will remain loyal to only one owner throughout their life.

However, Chow Chows are known for their independent and somewhat aloof personalities, sometimes even displaying a cat-like indifference. This means they are not generally clingy. Owners need to be proactive in initiating interactions and spending quality time with their Chow Chows to strengthen their bond.

Chow Chows are beautiful and noble-looking dogs. While they are not considered highly intelligent (even less so than Huskies), with sufficient patience and the use of treat rewards, they can be trained to be quite cooperative.
