There are many popular pet pig breeds, including the Chinese Bama Xiang pig, Vietnamese Pot-bellied pig, Yucatan pig, Ossabaw Island pig, Pygmy hog, Juliana pig, Micro pig, and Thai Miniature pig. Among these, teacup pigs and mini pigs are particularly popular.

1. Chinese Bama Xiang Pig

The Bama Xiang pig originates from Bama Yao Autonomous County in Guangxi, China, a product with a National Geographical Indication. Bama Xiang pigs have a delicate appearance, are short in stature, with a black head and tail and a white line in the middle or an inverted triangle white spot on the forehead. They are easy to raise, highly adaptable, and have strong disease resistance.

2. Teacup Pig

Teacup pigs are a type of micro pig. Due to their small size, like a teacup, the miniature teacup pig has become a new favorite for many enthusiasts. Teacup pigs were developed in the United States after World War II, originally used as experimental animals. They are no larger than a Cocker Spaniel, reaching a length of 30-40 cm and a weight of about 30 kg at two years old. Their small size and adaptability make them popular as pets.

3. Mini Pig (Small Fragrant Pig)

Also known as miniature pigs, mini pigs are very small in size. They have black, shiny coats, slightly long heads, large, drooping bellies, short, thin legs, and small tails. At six months, male mini pigs average 14.1 kg with a body length of 63 cm. At nine months, female pigs can weigh up to 30 kg.

4. Micro Pig

The micro pig is one of the smallest pig breeds in the world, a type of wild pig, primarily found in northeastern India. They are around 60 cm in length and about 24 cm in height, with adults weighing less than 11 kg. They were once relatively common in the Himalayas.

5. Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pig

The pot-bellied pig is a domesticated pig breed from Vietnam. They are smaller than European domestic pigs but can weigh between 26-134 kg. They are distinguished from other domestic pig breeds by their size, erect ears, and straight tails. Their distinctive bellies are a key feature.

6. Thai Miniature Pig

Thai miniature pigs resemble domestic pigs but are very small, usually black. Newborns weigh just over 410 grams, and adults typically do not exceed 5 kg. They are easy to care for and enjoy foods like tomatoes and watermelon. Their petite size makes them a popular choice for apartment living.

7. Ossabaw Island Pig

Ossabaw Island pigs average 30-34 cm in height and weigh 22-80 pounds. They are known for their unique charm, friendliness toward humans, and intelligence. Ossabaw Island pigs can live for about 25 years, making them beloved pets. This breed has adapted to the unique environment of Ossabaw Island, developing hardy characteristics.

8. Yucatan Pig

Also known as the Mexican Hairless pig, the Yucatan pig only lacks hair on its mouth and nose; the rest of its body is covered with hair similar to ordinary pigs. Their size varies greatly, with larger ones growing to over 182 pounds and smaller ones ranging from 44.3-91 pounds, and a height of 41-60 cm. They have long, narrow heads, drooping ears, developed thighs, and relatively long limbs.

9. Juliana Pig

Adult Juliana pigs have a body length of about 40 cm and come in various colors. They have silver ears and several pairs of whiskers, which make them unique in appearance. Unlike domestic pigs that have thick legs, the Juliana pig has very thin legs. This adds to their distinctive and somewhat whimsical look.

10. Pygmy Hog

The Pygmy hog is a wild pig found in Asia. They are much smaller than European wild boars, weighing only around 10 kg. They live exclusively in the Assam region of India, measuring 59 cm long and about 25 cm tall, with adults weighing less than 10 kg. 'Pygmy' means 'small.' They are active, agile, and highly alert, making them an interesting subject for conservation and study.Read more here:Pet Breeds
