Is It Okay to Give Away a 10-Day-Old Ragdoll Kitten?

It's generally not recommended to give away a 10-day-old Ragdoll kitten. At this age, kittens are still entirely dependent on their mother's milk and are incredibly vulnerable. Removing them from their mother at such a young age can make it very difficult for them to thrive. It’s best to wait until the kitten is older before considering rehoming.

Why You Shouldn't Rehome a 10-Day-Old Kitten

Firstly, 10-day-old Ragdoll kittens are not yet weaned. They rely entirely on their mother's milk for nutrition. If separated from their mother, the new owner would need to provide regular feedings with kitten formula, which requires time, effort, and specific knowledge. This can be quite challenging for someone not experienced in caring for such young kittens. Secondly, newborn kittens are physically fragile. A sudden change in environment can cause significant stress, making them susceptible to various health issues. Therefore, it is highly advisable to wait until the kitten is more independent before considering rehoming it. Ideally, kittens should stay with their mother until they are at least 8-12 weeks old.

Caring for a 10-Day-Old Kitten Without a Mother

If a 10-day-old kitten is without its mother, it is crucial to provide it with proper care. A suitable kitten milk replacer, such as specially formulated goat milk powder for kittens, is necessary. These formulas often contain essential nutrients like DHA for brain and vision development, calcium and phosphorus for bone growth, and a good balance of protein and fat for energy. Many also contain probiotics, which are beneficial for the kitten’s digestive health. Even if the mother isn’t present, with the right formula, a kitten can still get all the nourishment it needs. These products are often affordable and a good option for orphaned or very young kittens. The goal is to mimic the mother’s milk as closely as possible to support their optimal growth and development.
