Papillons, being a small dog breed, are generally permitted in Huai'an. Typically, larger dog breeds or those considered aggressive are not allowed within the city limits of Huai'an.
Huai'an permits the ownership of small adult dogs with a height of 35cm or less. Papillons, with an adult height ranging from approximately 20-28 centimeters and a weight between 3 to 5 kilograms, fit well within these guidelines, classifying them as a small breed suitable for ownership. Also known as the Butterfly Dog or Continental Toy Spaniel, the Papillon, named for its butterfly-like ears, originates from France and is an ancient European breed. They are adorable and charming with their unique ear feature. As long as you meet local regulations, they are welcome in Huai’an.
Why are Papillons Less Commonly Owned?
1. Destructive behavior isn't exclusive to Huskies; Papillons also exhibit a propensity for this. It is difficult to leave them home alone. These very active dogs can create quite a mess in a short time when their owners are out.
2. Excessive clinginess is another reason that some people may not prefer them. Owners often need personal time for their own activities; however, Papillons are so dependent that they need constant attention and companionship, which makes it hard for their owners to have space for themselves.
3. While cute and small, Papillons possess a strong and bold personality. They are prone to confrontation with other dogs. Their aggressive reaction can lead to them initiating fights, often resulting in injury to themselves.
4. Papillons have long fur that requires substantial grooming even though they don't shed much. Owners need to comb their fur every day, bathe them regularly, and focus on fur care and styling.
