Top 10 Forbidden Fruits for American Bullies: What You Need to Know

American Bullies, like all dogs, have specific dietary needs and sensitivities. Certain fruits that are safe for humans can be extremely harmful, even fatal, to them. It's crucial for every American Bully owner to be aware of the following ten forbidden fruits:

1. Grapes and Raisins:

Grapes and raisins contain an unknown toxin that can severely damage a dog’s kidneys, leading to kidney failure. Even a small amount can be dangerous, so it's imperative to keep these away from your American Bully.

2. Persimmons:

Persimmons are high in tannins, which can bind with substances in a dog's body to form stones. This can cause intestinal blockages and necrosis. Therefore, persimmons are a definite no-no.

3. Pomegranates:

Pomegranate seeds contain cyanides. If ingested in large quantities, they can lead to poisoning, causing breathing difficulties, vomiting, and diarrhea. Handle pomegranates with care to prevent accidental consumption.

4. Cherries:

Cherry flesh also contains cyanides, posing a risk of poisoning if consumed in excess. Additionally, the pits are high in fats and phospholipids, and if chewed up they can lead to pancreatitis. Always keep cherries out of your dog’s reach.

5. Apricots and Plums:

Similar to cherries, the flesh of apricots and plums are high in phospholipids and fats, increasing the risk of pancreatitis. Furthermore, their pits also contain cyanides, posing a risk of poisoning. Avoid letting your dog have access to these fruits.

6. Peaches:

Peaches have a high sugar and fiber content, which can cause diarrhea and vomiting if eaten in excess. The kernels within also pose a pancreatitis risk if chewed up. Always be careful handling peaches around your American Bully.

7. Chinese Bayberries (Yangmei):

Chinese Bayberries are highly acidic, which can irritate your dog’s gastrointestinal tract, leading to diarrhea and vomiting. They also contain high levels of sugars and fiber that can be detrimental to their health when eaten in large quantities. Keep your Bully away from them.

8. Hazelnuts:

Hazelnuts are high in fats and phospholipids, which can induce pancreatitis. They are also high in phosphorus, which can place a strain on the kidneys if consumed in excess. Therefore, avoid feeding your dog hazelnuts.

Aside from these forbidden fruits, there are other fruits that should be given with caution. Citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruits have a high acid content that can irritate a dog's stomach, causing vomiting and diarrhea. Fruits such as lychees and longans, with their high sugar content, should also be limited to prevent hyperglycemia.

Being proactive about your American Bully's nutrition is crucial to their health and longevity. Keeping these forbidden fruits away is part of responsible pet ownership. You might also like:Pet Breeding
