What to Feed a Four-Month-Old Kitten for Calcium Supplementation and Signs of Deficiency

To supplement calcium in a four-month-old kitten, you can feed them calcium tablets or bone broth, and also make sure they get regular sunshine.

You can buy pet-specific calcium tablets or powder, but pay attention to the dosage. Feed according to the instructions and your cat's weight, and combine it with an appropriate amount of vitamin D to promote calcium absorption. We recommend Miao Shou Yi Sheng's goat milk calcium tablets, which are rich in calcium lactate and are a high-calcium formula tailored for cats. The addition of Vitamin D3, Vitamin A, zinc, and other trace elements can promote calcium absorption and reduce calcium loss. In addition, it contains added goat milk powder that pets love, providing an excellent flavor and ample nutrition to better meet a kitten’s calcium needs during growth.

You can also feed your kitten bone broth, along with fruits and vegetables to supplement various vitamins. Regular sun exposure helps with calcium absorption. It is especially important to supplement young kittens with calcium to prevent poor bone development during growth.

Signs of Calcium Deficiency in Cats

1. Seizures

When a cat is calcium deficient, it will often experience tremors and body twitches. If you observe these symptoms in your cat, be vigilant and supplement with calcium promptly, especially for postpartum mother cats.

2. Poor Lumbar Spine

If a cat is calcium deficient, it may experience deformation of the lumbar spine. Over time, this can affect the cat’s gait, making it unnatural, unable to straighten its back, experiencing difficulty standing, or exhibiting awkward postures similar to a human squatting.

3. Slow Growth

Calcium-deficient kittens will grow slower and be smaller than their peers. So, if a pet owner notices that their cat is smaller than other cats of the same age, they should consider the possibility of a calcium deficiency.
