Detailed Guide to Feeding Devon Rex Cats

Feeding a Devon Rex cat requires a scheduled and portion-controlled approach. Avoid overfeeding at once and instead offer meals at set times. While frequent walks are not necessary, providing a cat tree will help them burn off energy indoors. Regular sun exposure is also beneficial for their health.

Feeding Habits

Consistent principles apply to both cats and dogs: adhere to a schedule with timed and measured meals. Upon weaning, when your Devon Rex kitten transitions to cat food, establish a routine of twice-daily feedings at specific times. Do not overfill the bowl all at once. This isn't because of concern about overeating. Healthy cats can usually manage their own portion sizes. Instead, the issue is that cats prefer food with a strong aroma. Leftover food in the bowl will gradually lose its smell, diminishing its appeal.

Devon Rex cats can be picky eaters. If they don’t like the taste of the food, it will be difficult to get them to eat it. Before purchasing a large bag of cat food, test out which flavors and brands they prefer. You can often obtain samples at pet stores or supermarkets. Once you discover what they like, you can buy the larger pack with confidence.

Outdoor Activities

Devon Rex cats are small and can typically get enough exercise indoors, without needing to be taken out for walks. However, if you decide to take your cat out, always use a leash. Otherwise, they might get distracted by other people or animals and ignore your calls.

Devon Rex cats are very energetic and playful, like little "elves". If you cannot dedicate the time to walks, consider setting up a large cat tree for them. If you are able, you can even create your own climbing structures and toys. Of course, when you have time, interact with them directly. They greatly enjoy the closeness of their owners.

Coat Care

Their curly fur is a result of a genetic mutation, but it’s considered one of the features that makes them so attractive. It doesn't affect their beauty and they shed very little. Their low shedding rate makes them a great option for people with allergies. Maintaining their coat is also very easy. After bathing them, simply towel-dry them or let them bask in the sun. This makes grooming easier and prevents triggering allergies.Related resource:Pet Training
