If your dog has diarrhea, it's important to withhold food and observe, while ensuring they have plenty of clean water to prevent dehydration. If the diarrhea is due to being chilled, make sure to keep your dog warm. As their symptoms improve, gradually reintroduce easily digestible foods.
Causes of Dog Diarrhea and Solutions
1. Food Issues
Many cases of dog diarrhea are related to food. This includes eating spoiled food, human food, food they are intolerant to, or accidentally consuming something unclean. If you suspect food is the cause, withhold food for half a day or a full day while observing them. Be sure to provide plenty of clean drinking water to keep them hydrated and prevent dehydration from severe diarrhea. Later on, pay close attention to your dog's diet and make sure the food is clean, healthy, and safe.
2. Gastrointestinal Problems
Some dogs have sensitive stomachs. If they eat too much or too many different foods, it can overwhelm their digestive system and they will not be able to digest their food properly. This can cause diarrhea, or even vomiting. In addition, sudden changes to their environment, food or vaccinations and deworming can also cause diarrhea. You should make adjustments to your dog’s diet accordingly.
3. Cold or Flu
If your dog's energy levels and appetite are otherwise normal, then it is possible the diarrhea may be caused by a sudden change in weather or from being chilled. If this is the case, keep your dog warm and consider giving them pet nutritional supplements to boost their immune system and help them recover. Once the cold has passed, the diarrhea will likely clear up.
Another possibility is that your dog has contracted parvovirus. In this case you should take them to the vet right away, do not wait.Follow us for updates:Pet Training
