The Right Way to Feed Probiotics to Your Cat: How Many Times a Day?

The correct way to administer probiotics to your cat is by mixing them into their cat food or other meals, or dissolving them in water for your cat to consume. This method of feeding probiotics allows for maximum effectiveness. Generally, adult cats can be fed probiotics twice a day, with one packet each time.

Why Give Your Cat Probiotics?

Both cats and other mammals have both beneficial and harmful bacteria in their bodies. When these two types of microorganisms are in balance, the body is healthy. If, due to certain reasons, the number of beneficial bacteria in a cat's body decreases, the cat will experience a decline in immunity and disease resistance. At this time, it's necessary to supplement the cat with some probiotics.

How to Feed Probiotics to Cats

Cat probiotics can be given directly to your cat, mixed into their cat food, or dissolved in lukewarm water two hours after a meal. Usually, probiotics are given after a meal to promote gastrointestinal motility, adjust the gastrointestinal microbial environment, and aid in food digestion. If your cat overeats or has indigestion, you can feed them an appropriate amount of probiotics for relief. Although probiotics are not harmful to cats, it's best not to give them casually. Typically, probiotics are used to regulate the digestive system when cats experience diarrhea or bloating. In special cases, such as when switching food or during indigestion, it’s important to understand the correct method and precautions for feeding probiotics.

Precautions for Feeding Probiotics to Cats

1. Use Cat-Specific Probiotics

Avoid feeding probiotics intended for humans or dogs; even those labeled for both cats and dogs are not ideal. This is because cats have unique physiological needs and are very particular when it comes to palatability.

2. Avoid Using Boiling Water

Probiotics are active cultures, and their activity is strongest at around 30 degrees Celsius. Too high of a temperature will inactivate them, rendering them ineffective. Therefore, you must mix probiotics with lukewarm water for your cat; otherwise, the effect will be greatly reduced. If you enjoyed this, try:Pet Naming
