Dog Cold: What to Do and How Long Does it Last?

When your dog catches a cold, it's important to provide them with warmth, adequate nutrition, and a bland diet to help them recover quickly. Generally, if the symptoms are mild, a dog cold typically resolves within 5 to 7 days. However, if the condition is more severe, it may take 1 to 2 weeks for your dog to fully recover.

Important Considerations When Your Dog Has a Cold

Besides veterinary care, proper home care is crucial for your dog's recovery. Here are some key points to remember:

1. Keep Warm

Colds in dogs are often caused by temperature fluctuations and exposure to cold. During summer, the stark contrast between hot outdoor temperatures and cool indoor spaces can easily trigger a cold. To prevent this, ensure your dog has a warm and comfortable place to rest. Avoid letting them sleep directly on the floor or exposing them to air conditioning for prolonged periods.

2. Hydration and Nutrition

Staying hydrated is very helpful. Encourage your dog to drink plenty of water during a cold. If they are reluctant to drink, try offering them goat's milk, which is rich in nutrients and can help stimulate appetite. You can also feed them bland foods like unsalted, lean meat porridge.

3. Rest and Recovery

Reduce the frequency and duration of outdoor activities to allow your dog sufficient time to rest and recover.

4. Bland and Nutritious Diet

Just like humans, dogs need a bland diet when they have a cold. Opt for highly nutritious, bland dog food such as "Chan Bu Ni Natural Dog Food". This type of food has a low-salt formula, is palatable, and easy to digest and absorb. Supplementing their diet with fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C can also aid in a faster recovery.Learn more:Pet Grooming
