Do Cats Recognize When They Have a New Owner?

Cats are indeed aware when they have a new owner. When they accept a new human companion, they will exhibit behaviors such as following their owner closely and showing affection.

Signs a Cat Recognizes Their Owner

There are several ways cats show they have accepted you as their owner:

Constant Companionship: When a cat acknowledges someone as their owner, they want to be by their side at all times. After eating, they will often approach their owner for cuddles, naps, or playtime. When they sense their owner is about to leave, they may rub against their legs or follow closely, indicating their desire for their owner not to leave.

Purring: Cats, being naturally cautious creatures, rarely display affection openly. When a cat purrs while in your presence, it means they feel content and consider you their owner. The purring is a sign of happiness and comfort.

Physical Contact: Cats who have accepted their owners often seek physical interaction. They might expose their bellies to you, which is a vulnerable position for them, only showing this side of themselves when they completely trust someone. They may also rub their heads against you, signaling that they have accepted you as their owner and want to mark you with their scent.

How Long Do Cats Remember Their Owners?

Cats have surprisingly good memories, and can remember their owners for many years. This is due to their keen ability to remember events and their associated emotions. If a cat feels scolded or mistreated, they will remember this and may engage in retaliatory behaviors like inappropriate urination. However, if a cat has not seen their owner for 5 to 6 years, that memory may begin to fade.Don’t miss out on this:Pet Breeding
