At one month old, Afghan Hound puppies are still nursing and quite small, relying entirely on their mother's milk for sustenance. As they reach two months, they begin the weaning process, developing their first set of puppy teeth. By three months, the physical traits that define an Afghan Hound become more apparent, allowing for an initial assessment of their breed characteristics. The period from four to eight months marks a significant growth spurt for these dogs. By nine to twelve months, their size stabilizes, and they resemble their adult form.

Specifically, during the first month, Afghan Hound puppies are pre-weaning, appearing smaller and rounder. Their typical breed features aren't fully developed yet. Around two months, they start weaning, and experience a notable weight gain while their puppy teeth emerge and limbs grow longer. By three months, assessing an Afghan Hound's breed quality becomes more feasible visually. The four-to-eight-month phase is characterized by rapid growth. During this time, puppies may experience teething, and male Afghan Hounds might see their testicles descend into the scrotum. The period between nine and twelve months usually sees little change in size for Afghan Hounds; their size is generally stable unless dietary habits or exercise routines alter their physique, causing them to become overweight or underweight.
