Cat Not Eating, Drinking, and Vomiting for Days: Causes and Treatment

If your cat has been refusing food and water and experiencing vomiting for several days, it's crucial to address the situation promptly. Several underlying health issues could be the cause, ranging from a simple cold or fever to more serious conditions like feline panleukopenia (feline distemper) or gastrointestinal problems.

A common reason for a cat not eating, drinking, and vomiting is a fever or a cold. However, these symptoms can also indicate more severe conditions like feline panleukopenia or intestinal diseases. It's essential to seek veterinary care immediately. Dehydration due to prolonged anorexia can be very dangerous for cats and may require intravenous fluid therapy. A veterinarian can perform a thorough examination, diagnose the underlying cause, and recommend the most appropriate course of treatment.

Another potential reason for a cat refusing food and water and vomiting is stress or an adverse reaction. Many factors can trigger a stress response in cats, such as changes in diet or litter, moving to a new environment, encountering unfamiliar people or animals, or loud and unusual sounds. If the stress is mild, calming measures should be prioritized. Talk to your cat softly and gently stroke it, and provide a quiet and secure environment for recovery. Sometimes they may hide until they feel safe to reappear. However, if the stress is severe, and your cat exhibits severe symptoms like heavy vomiting, diarrhea, complete anorexia, or seizures, immediate veterinary attention is essential.
