Will a Kitten's Broken Tooth Grow Back? And How Long Does It Take?

Generally, a broken tooth in a kitten will not grow back. However, if the break occurs before their adult teeth come in, there is a chance it might grow back within a few weeks.

Unlike humans, where a broken tooth can be replaced with a prosthetic, cats' teeth are composed of a specialized bone-like tissue called dentin, which does not regenerate like human teeth. Therefore, a broken adult cat tooth will not grow back. However, there is an exception. If a kitten's tooth breaks while it's still a baby tooth, and the root is not completely extracted, it might regrow. So, if you discover that your cat’s tooth is broken, it is best to have a vet check it as soon as possible to determine if the root is still intact, and if regrowth is possible. For young kittens, broken baby teeth might regrow if not severely damaged.

The dental development of cats goes through two stages: deciduous (baby) teeth and permanent teeth. Kittens have 26 deciduous teeth, and when they reach the permanent stage, they have 30 teeth. The additional four are two molars on both the upper and lower jaws. These permanent teeth are intended to last their lifetime, proper dental care is essential to maintain their health. You might also like:Pet Breeding
