Is Your Blue and White Cat Ugly? Identifying Mix-Breeds

If a blue and white cat has poor features and looks quite unattractive, it's highly likely it's a mixed breed. Purebred blue and white British Shorthairs are not typically considered ugly. To determine if your blue and white British Shorthair is purebred, you can assess its physical characteristics and temperament. Purebreds usually have a large, round head, big, round eyes, wide-set, upright ears, short, sturdy legs, dense, short fur, a thick, short tail, and a generally plump, somewhat goofy appearance. They are also known for their gentle, affectionate nature, their love for human interaction, and their overall ease of care.

One of the biggest advantages of a blue and white British Shorthair is their beautiful, charming appearance, which makes them instantly appealing. These cats are also known for their quiet nature; they don't tend to meow a lot and are generally very peaceful, rarely disturbing their owners. They are also relatively robust and not prone to illness, making them easy to care for. However, it's still important to ensure a clean environment and take proper care to keep them warm. Blue and white British Shorthairs are beloved by many cat enthusiasts, making them truly beautiful companion animals. If a blue and white cat looks very unattractive, it's very likely a mix, because purebred blue and white cats shouldn't exhibit undesirable traits.

How to Identify if Your Blue and White is a Mix

1. Body Type

Currently, the standard for purebred British Shorthairs includes both solid blue and blue and white varieties. For a blue and white cat to be considered top quality, it should have the same body type as a solid blue British Shorthair. This means a round, stocky body, a large, round head, small ears, sturdy legs, and a thick tail. These characteristics indicate the blue and white cat is likely a purebred.

2. Color and Patterns

The best way to tell if your blue and white British Shorthair is a mix is by carefully examining the sheen of their fur, the symmetry of their face, and the presence of any mixed colors. Blue and white British Shorthairs are not just a single blue; they have both blue and white fur. Typically, the back is covered in blue fur that is similar to that of a solid blue British Shorthair, while the underside is white. Purebred blue and whites often have an inverted "V" shape of color on their cheeks. If the face is symmetrical with a pink nose and a clean look, their value is usually doubled. The most critical aspect is the quality of their coat. The blue and white colors should be evenly distributed, particularly on the head, where the colors should be clearly defined. If the colors are mixed, it indicates that the cat is not purebred. Uneven blue and white patterns or poor physical features are signs of a mixed breed, even if the parents have good features, there are cases where it can come from the lineage many generations back. It is statistically possible that the litter can contain both good and bad looking ones.Follow us for updates:Pet Training
