Are Amazon Parrots Protected and Can You Own One in China?

Specifically, Amazon parrots fall under the protection of Class II wildlife in China. Owning one in China is possible; however, it is mandatory to secure a Wildlife Domestication and Breeding Permit before acquiring one. These permits are generally processed at the local County Forestry Bureau. It’s important to note that all Amazon parrot species are classified as either Class I or Class II protected animals. Keeping them without the required permit is an illegal activity and carries legal consequences. The Yellow-naped Amazon parrot includes about three subspecies which exhibit minor variations primarily in the amount of yellow feathering on the head and neck, and in their overall body size. A notably rare subspecies is the Roatan Yellow-naped Amazon parrot, distinguished by its wax-yellow beak. The other two subspecies are the Honduran Yellow-naped Amazon parrot and the nominate Yellow-naped Amazon parrot.
