How to Properly Soak Cat Food

Water that is too cold will not soften the kibble effectively, while water that is too hot can potentially scald your cat. Additionally, soak the food right before you feed your cat to ensure it is fresh and palatable. Soaked food should not be left out for extended periods. The time required for soaking will vary depending on the specific brand and formulation of cat food. Generally, using water at around 140°F (60°C) will soften most kibble in about 20 minutes, resulting in a feedable temperature of about 86°F (30°C).
